Good dealings with brother-in-laws

Good dealings with brother-in-laws: Sayyidnā Muʿāwiyah (rz) was the brother of Sayyidah Umm Ḥabībah, the mother of all believers. He was one of those who would write the revelation of Allah Almighty-

Once he was on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). During the journey, the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) asked him “O Muʿāwiyah! Which part of your body touches me?” He replied: “My stomach”. The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: O Allah! Fill the stomach of Muʿāwiyah with education-

Once the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was discussing something with Sayyidnā Abū Bakr and Sayyidnā ʿUmar (ra), and the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) asked to call Muʿāwiyah and said: “Include Muʿāwiyah in your suggestion, for he is strong and faithful. It means he has the capability of giving good suggestions with faithfulness-

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was once going to somewhere along with some companions. One of them asked: how can we conquer Syria while it is under Roman rule? The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) put the stick that he had in his hand on the shoulder of Muʿāwiyah and said: Muʿāwiyah is sufficient for you۔

While supplicating, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to Muʿāwiyah: O Allah, make him a guiding one, and guide (others) by him۔

Note: The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would treat honourably with his brother-in-law. The aforementioned report on one hand highlights the good dealings of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the talent and righteousness of Sayyidnā Muʿāwiyah (rz) and teaches the lesson of good behaviour with brother-in-law on the other hand۔

Good dealings with sister-in-law

Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah (rz) narrated:Once Hālah Bint Khuwaylid, Khadījah’s sister, asked the permission of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to enter. On that, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) remembered Khadījah, and that moved him Sayyidah Khadījah (rz) was the first wife of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and she died in his lifetime-

It indicates that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would behave honourably with the sister-in-law even after Khadījah had died-

Zaynab Bint Jaḥash was one of the wives of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Therefore, her sisters Umm Ḥabībah Bint Jaḥash and Ḥamnah Bint Jaḥash would mostly come to the Prophet’s house and ask masā’il. Hence, the ḥadīth on istiḥāḍah (immoderate menstrual bleeding) are reported on their authority-Good dealings with brother-in-laws-

Good dealings with father-in-law

Sayyidnā Abū Bakr (ra), Sayyidnā ʿUmar (rz), Sayyidnā Abū Sufyān (ra) and Sayyidnā Ḥārith Ibn Ḍirār (ra) were the companions of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as well as his fathers-in-law-

Sayyidnā Abū Bakr (ra) accompanied the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in cave when migrating to Madīnah and he will also be in his blessed company at Kawthar on the Day of Resurrection, and Sayyidnā ʿUmar (ra) was Fārūq and interpreter of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Their love and friendship with the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is unmatched. Sayyidnā ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ asked the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam): O Prophet of Allah! Who are most beloved to you among men? He said: Abū Bakr and then ʿUmar-

Abū Sufyān was the commander of each battle fought against Muslims till the conquest of Makkah but on that day he was so afraid. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), on the contrary, dealt with him so honourably. Ḥārith Ibn Ḍirār will be discussed later-

Looking after stepchidren

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) got married with Umm Salamah. She had children (namely ʿAmr Ibn Abī Salamah and Zaynab). The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) looked after them and brought them up. They were also in-laws. Hence, many narrations are narrated about their upbringing in the books of Ḥadīth-

Abū Ṭalḥah (rz) got married with the mother of Anas (rz). Abū Ṭalḥah managed to bring his stepson up. Anas (rz) reported: When Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) came to Madīnah, Abū Ṭalḥah took hold of my hand and brought me to Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said: Allah’s Messenger! Anas is a prudent young boy, and he will serve you. He (Anas) said: I served him in journey and at home-Good dealings with brother-in-laws-

Good dealings with common in-laws

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was informed that Ḥārith Ibn Ḍirār, the chief of Banū Muṣṭaliq, was preparing to attack Muslims. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) went along with a group of Muslims and attacked them while they were unexpected to bear the attack. The Muslim forces were victorious and gained huge war booties. Among the many captives was Juwayriyah, the daughter of Ḥārith Ibn Ḍirār. She came as salve-girl in the possession of Thābit ibn Qays.

Juwayriyah sought a deed of redemption from the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). After that she went to Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) for help. Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked her that would you agree , that I will give redemption money on your behalf and will marry you and she agreed, so as a result, freed her from the bondage of Thābit ibn Qays and consequently he got married with her. When the companions of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) came to know of the marriage of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) with Juwayriyah, they freed all her captured tribe considering that they are the in-laws of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam-

Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah (rz) says: “We did not see any woman greater than Juwayriyah who brought blessings to her people. One hundred families of Banu al-Mustaliq were set free on account of her-

The companions respected the in-laws of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) very much. If they were common in-laws, how goodly they would treat with important relatives. When the companions possessed this good character, how great character would their Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) have possessed-

Good dealings with female friends of wife

Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah (rz) narrates: “Whenever the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) slaughtered a sheep, he would cut its parts and send them to the female friends of Khadījah-

These were the stories of good dealings of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) with the female friends of his wife. Now imagine how nicely he would be dealing with the family of his wife. All these are mentioned in ḥadīths and sufficient for those who intend to act upon them-Good dealings with brother-in-laws-https://faizaneqasmi.com/
